     Some people say that WWI was one of the most horrific wars because of the new technologies, and that the world of war was changed forever.  Air bombing had just come about as well as Tommys and poison gas.  Air bombing forced some areas of countries to be abandoned for generations.  Because of the hole, pits, debris, scattered bodies, and lack of good soil for plants.  Tommys and other machine guns ripped through bodies that might be cleaned up after the war... or maybe not.  But most of all, the poison gas that make you go mental and act out of crazed desperation until you died. In the book All Quiet on the Western Front, poison gas is explained in depth for several pages.  So, as you can gather from what I have said, WWI is and was one of the most gruesome war of all time.
